monday with the bachelor

The hubby and I are currently sitting here watching the Bachelor.
He's being good and working on our taxes while watching (what a multi-tasker he is).
I'm thinking about doing some homework...does that count for anything?

Anyhow, my thoughts...

  • Do both the women know everything about you, Brad? Everything? I think that may have been a bit of an exaggerated statement.
  • Brad, could you be more awkward about Emily's past coming up in your family's conversation?? Emily, way to be real and level-headed. As expected of course.
  • You could never get me into a shark cage. Chantal, you are one brave woman.
  • Chantal says, "It's crazy to think this is mine and Brad's last night together." My husband says, "Yeah, before he dumps you, ho"  We have nothing against Chantal, we have simply been rooting for Emily.
  • Speaking of Emily...umm, can we be best friends, Em? Yeah, that'd be great.
  • Chantal, I'm sorry, you're the first one to meet Brad...this means you're going home.
  • Ohh now I feel bad that you're crying. You really are a good person. And, if it counts for anything, you look gorgeous Chantal. Seriously, like Oscar-gorgeous.
  • Emily, you look gorgeous too. Simply elegant.
  • Aww Brad, you're getting nervous now---just ask her man!
  • Sooo glad Brad and Emily ended up together. Chantal is wonderful, but how can you not love Emily? Just look at her. Pure Southern charm.
  • Has anyone else noticed that Brad is 38 and Emily is 24.  Nothing wrong with age differences of course, but are you really 38 Brad?  Looking good for almost being 40.
  • And who's the new Bachelorette going to be?? I'm rooting for Ashley H!
  • Oh wait, what is going on with the "after the final rose"--problems in loveland?
  • Sad days, it doesn't look like the two lovebirds are having some problems. Wedding to come still--so they promise.  We'll see I guess.
  • Oh, and no Ashley H...Ashley S. instead.  She will for sure make it an interesting next season.
  • Thank you Brad and all of this season's women for making Monday nights rather entertaining at my house.

Driftwood upgrade

Remember when I attempted to be artsy? I wrote the post about driftwood?
Well...it turns out I've got a long way to go in my driftwood art-making abilities.
I'm not giving up hope though--I just need some practice.
My cute neighbors are moving from the island in April and got a head start on selling some of their stuff.
They make the most adorable driftwood pieces and I was lucky enough to buy one from them.
It was a steal of a deal for sure.
Sooo for now, I've taken down my weird diamond driftwood art and replaced it with this lovely piece,
with the hopes that it will be inspiring enough for me to give the driftwood another try someday.

friday outing

It was so nice to spend some time in Town yesterday.
We walked around and went shopping in Ala Moana mall.
Here are just a couple pictures from the day.

We had dinner at CPK
The pizza and pasta were delicious.

After dinner, we spotted some performing group, prepping before their show.
They were performing in a restaurant for someone's baby blessing.
I don't know who's baby this was, but the family seriously went all out.
There was a group of like 20 kids and teenagers who were going to be performing.
I tried to sneak a picture of them from afar, but finally I just decided to go up and ask.
They were super nice about it. They even pulled out the dragon costumes!
I'm sure they were all thinking that we were just some crazy tourists on vacation, but oh well, I got a picture at least!

And now today, we've been relaxing and reorganizing our house.
Love weekends.

Breaking free!

Thanks to everyone that left such sweet comments about the tsunami.
Thankfully our island was safe.  The Big Island took a bit of a beating though.
I just pray that everyone affected is finding some type of peace.

Despite being up all night, and still having school today (seriously BYU-H...you're not cancelling classes??), the husband and I are still going through with our weekend plans.
And this weekend is going to be great!
Seriously, it's been a long time since I've been looking forward to a weekend for a reason other than no school.
But finally, we are busting out of our town for a day.
Thursday was Beau's last day of school for a week. The high school that he student teaches at started their spring break. I finished up with classes and work at 1:30 today and now finally...we are ditching Laie and cruisin' into "Town."

If you've ever been to the island of Oahu, you know that Laie is one small little place.
My campus has only 2500 students and without the campus, the community would definitely be lacking in self-sustainability. So, even though I love my community here, it can be suffocating if you don't escape once in awhile.  And trust me, it's been awhile since I last escaped.

So my dear husband has promised to spend a lovely afternoon and evening out with me.
We're heading to "Town," aka Honolulu area. (It's funny to me that no one actually says Honolulu. Instead, it's always Town). Anyhow, I'm anticipating an incredibly fun day.
I'll put up pictures this weekend, showing off our adventures.

Happy weekend everyone!

preparing for a surge

Two more hours left until we're supposed to be hit and though I'm worried, all I really want to do is sleep
What to do while waiting for a tsunami?
Hmm...

  • Prepare bags (clothes, food, etc)--check
  • Decide on evacuation plan--check
  • Clean house to relieve anxiety--check
  • Update blog and facebook to let everyone know we're doing alright--check
  • Watch an episode of "Lost" with the hubby--check

Tsunami craziness

If you haven't already heard on the news, the world is falling apart again.
Well, not really, but some scary stuff is definitely going on.
The earthquake and tsunami in Japan was crazy. If you haven't heard about it, read it here
Now, the question is whether or not a Tsunami is going to hit Hawaii. Where I live.
Wellll, about an hour ago they updated it from a tsunami watch to a tsunami warning.
Last year, on February 27, 2010 there was a tsunami warning after the earthquake in Chile.
Other than some minor receding waters, nothing actually happened.
BUT, that of course does not mean that nothing will happen this time.

The news is making it sound pretty serious, which is really scary. I've been packing food and medicine and toiletries and the such, just in case we need to evacuate.
Usually I love living so close to the beach, I'm literally a 10 minute walk.
But in this case, I'm not to happy about it.
Last year when this happened, I was freaking out. Like I had a major freak out.
I'm being much more level headed this time around though.
Whether or not something happens, I'm sure we'll be fine.
I'm more worried about our home than anything else. We live on the bottom floor and if a surge of water is coming, my little studio is going to become a swimming pool...or an aquarium, depending on how much water we get. Luckily we have friends that live on the 2nd floor, which is supposed to be safe.

I hope the people in Northern Japan are recovering from the disasters. Pray for them.
And pray that Hawaii and the Wake Islands won't take too hard of a hit.
They're saying the wave surge would be about 6 feet probably.
Keep us and everyone else being affected in your prayers!

and the cup goes to....

Have I ever mentioned that the husband and I are a wee bit competitive?
Did I just say "wee"...wow. Disregard my word choice please.
Anyhow, yes, it's true, we like to have a little competition as much as the next person.
As a gift, we were sent these two beauties

Well, it's clearly become a bit of a battle in our house as to who gets to be "Thing 1" and "Thing 2."
Because we all know that Thing 1 is the best. Hands down.
So, to settle this debate, we fight for possession of the Thing 1 cup every week.
No, not an actual fight silly.  Instead, we have play-offs.
Our two most common play-off games include Uno and Scrabble.
And if we owned Monopoly Deal, that would easily become our most commonly played game.
I feel like once you get married you instantly become that "old couple" who thinks it's fun to sit at home and play cards.  Come on people, cards are fun though! At least we think so.

Sad for me, Beau bet me out this week. Next week I will be triumphant though!
I wanna get creative in our competitions for the cup.  Any suggestions?
